Jean Rivera McCoy

Jean Rivera McCoy is an experienced immigration attorney and advocate dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate the complex United States immigration system. Born and raised in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Jean developed a strong commitment to service, justice, and advocacy from an early age. His education in Jesuit institutions helped shape the values that continue to guide his legal practice today: integrity, compassion, intellectual rigor, and a commitment to serving others.

Jean earned his Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus, before obtaining his Juris Doctor from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico School of Law. He was sworn in to practice law in Puerto Rico in 2017 and began practicing immigration law shortly thereafter.

Since entering the field of immigration law in 2018, Jean has devoted his career exclusively to representing immigrants and their families. He has worked for several respected nonprofit organizations, including RAICES, Catholic Charities, and the Central American Resource Center (CARECEN), where he provided legal representation to vulnerable populations seeking protection, family unity, and lawful immigration status in the United States.

Throughout his career, Jean has represented clients under multiple presidential administrations, including the first Trump Administration, the Biden Administration, and the current Trump Administration. This experience has provided him with a unique understanding of the constantly evolving landscape of immigration law and policy. He has successfully guided clients through changing regulations, shifting enforcement priorities, and complex legal challenges while remaining focused on achieving the best possible outcomes for those he represents.

Jean has extensive experience representing individuals in removal proceedings before Immigration Courts throughout the United States. He has litigated a wide variety of cases involving asylum, withholding of removal, protection under the Convention Against Torture, cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, waivers of inadmissibility, bond proceedings, and humanitarian forms of relief. He has also represented clients before the Board of Immigration Appeals and has significant experience handling complex immigration litigation matters.

In addition to his litigation experience, Jean regularly represents clients before U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) in family-based immigration matters, naturalization applications, adjustment of status cases, waivers, humanitarian petitions, and employment authorization matters. His practice combines courtroom advocacy with a comprehensive understanding of the administrative immigration process, allowing him to develop creative and effective strategies for clients facing difficult immigration challenges.
