B-1/B-2 Tourist & Business Visas

Proper Preparation Matters

Whether you are traveling to the United States for tourism, to visit family, attend a business meeting, receive medical treatment, or participate in other temporary activities, obtaining a B-1/B-2 visitor visa is often the first step. While many applicants assume that completing the application is enough, the visa interview itself is one of the most important parts of the process.

When you go to the interview, the officer is required by law to assume that you will not be returning to your country. Therefore, it is up to you to be prepared to demonstrate with documents and testimony of the reasons why you will return. Otherwise, your visa will be denied without you, rapidly.

The officer must determine whether the applicant intends to visit the United States temporarily and whether the applicant has sufficient ties to their home country that will motivate them to return after their authorized stay. We help clients prepare their applications, identify potential concerns, and prepare them for their interview.

A visitor visa application is much more than completing Form DS-160. Consular officers are trained to evaluate an applicant's travel plans, financial circumstances, prior immigration history, family ties, employment, and overall credibility.

Even seemingly simple questions can have a significant impact on the outcome of a case. Questions regarding family members in the United States, prior visa applications, previous travel history, employment, finances, and the purpose of the trip should be answered accurately and consistently. Inconsistencies, misunderstandings, or poorly prepared responses can lead to unnecessary and time consuming denials.

Our attorneys assist clients by reviewing their immigration history, discussing potential concerns, identifying red flags, and conducting interview preparation sessions designed to help applicants understand what to expect. We work with clients to ensure that they are prepared to answer questions clearly, truthfully, and confidently.

Many applicants are surprised to learn that the officer has much more information about them than they realize, and given this, many applicants are taken off guard and do not provide accurate information. This is an easy way for the officer to deny you. And then, these “misrepresentations” will have negative and oftentimes devastating negative impact on any other immigration benefit that you seek.

Beginning July 1, 2026, the U.S. Department of State is implementing a pilot program that allows certain B-1/B-2 visa applicants at selected U.S. embassies and consulates to pay an additional $750 fee to obtain an interview appointment within approximately 10 business days. This optional expedited appointment service is available only at participating posts and does not guarantee visa approval. The expedited service affects interview scheduling, not the officer's decision on the application. Applicants must still demonstrate eligibility for the visa and satisfy all legal requirements.
