The Threat Of Deportation Raids Leaves Many People In Utah Unsettled

Jul 12, 2019 Familia America Deportation Removal Defense

It is hard to miss the ever-present debate over immigration in this country. We know that the rhetoric being used and the policies being implemented affect millions of people, including those right here in Utah. If you need a Salt Lake City deportation attorney, let us help you. At Familia America, we understand immigration laws and are ready to vigorously defend you. Today, we want to discuss the recent and ongoing threats of immigration raids and how they are affecting our communities.

What We Know So Far About The Immigration Raids

It has been hard to ignore the threats of massive deportation raids that are supposed to take place around the United States. While the raids are supposed to be conducted by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in major cities, people in and around Salt Lake City are nervous as well.

“We are hearing from a lot of people wondering what’s going on, what to do,” said Jean Hill, spokeswoman for the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. She says the immigrant community is living in fear and people are trying to figure out how to protect themselves and their families. She fears that families in Utah will be torn apart by these raids.

The anxiety started a few weeks ago when it was announced that there would be deportation raids to remove “millions of illegal aliens who have illicitly found their way into the United States.”

This has been called a “family op” that would target up to 2,000 families in 10 major cities. Deyvid Morales, a Utah app developer of Derechos de Immigrantes y Ayuda (Immigrant Rights and Help) says that his phone has been ringing off the hook all day long with people scared of being deported. He said that kids are being damaged not knowing what is going to happen to their parents.

While the “mass deportation weekend” came and went without much activity, we did see protest spring up across the US. Entire communities were in the streets, demanding better treatment of immigrants in the country.

This situation, along with the current immigration debate in the US, shows the importance of having a skilled Salt Lake City immigration attorney to help with your case. Time after time, we see that those with legal help are more successful than those without an advocate.
