Helping Idaho Families Through the Immigration Process
Immigration involves more than just traveling to the United States for employment purposes or to be with family. The process of applying for a visa and maintaining legal residency is complex and very confusing. When you work with Familia America Immigration ~ Gloria Cardenas, our family — being our immigration attorney, paralegal and office assistant — will walk with you and your family through each step in the immigration process. We offer a free initial consultation to everyone who contacts us.
Help With Visas and Green Cards
Having a visa allows someone to enter the United States. Visas are divided into specific categories based on the intent of the person coming to the U.S. and include:
- Immigrant visas, or visas for those who plan on remaining in the country for a long time. Most people applying for immigrant visas plan on living here permanently and going through the naturalization and citizenship process.
- Non-immigrant visas, for those who are only visiting or temporarily working in the United States. Those with non-immigrant visas may stay in the country only for a certain length of time, and then they must either apply for a change of status or return to their home country.
- Family visas are designed to allow families of U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents to enter the country. They are often the most common types of visas someone may apply for.
- Employment visas allow people to live and work in the United States for a certain period of time or permanently. Employment-related visas cover a wide range of occupations, and each one has specific requirements regarding job purpose, required skills and length of stay.
Green cards allow immigrants who have already come to the United States to obtain legal permanent residency in the United States. If you have entered the U.S. on a non-immigrant or family visa, we can guide you through the green card application process to change your status from a temporary visitor to a permanent resident.
Applying for Citizenship
Becoming a U.S. citizen after entering the country is often an important goal for many who travel to the United States. Our lawyer and support staff will help you through the citizenship and naturalization process, including helping you file the correct forms (Form N-400 or Form N-600 if we are applying for your minor child) and understand other requirement such as civics testing and interviews.
We can also help you understand your options to appeal a denied visa or citizenship application, including various waivers that may be available to help keep your family together.
Defense Against Deportation and Removal
If you or a loved family member is facing deportation and removal, we provide the dedicated defense you need. We use a variety of methods to work with clients from afar, including telephone conferencing, e-mail, Skype and fax. Our office is within minutes of the regional Immigration Court in Salt Lake City, so we can file any paperwork directly with the court on the same day we talk to you.
If your family member was arrested for an immigration crime resulting in deportation proceedings, we can also visit him or her in person if he or she is being held in the nearby Salt Lake County jail in Spanish Fork. We have extensive experience working with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials, and do everything we can to protect your loved one.
If your loved one is being held in one of the facilities like the Spanish Fork facility, you need a deportation attorney in Spanish Fork to help you with your deportation and immigration needs.
